Matthew Nelson

Matthew is the Practice Manager at West End Veterinary Clinic, where he focuses on keeping things running smoothly—for both the team and the clients they care for. He joined the clinic in 2024, bringing with him a background in leadership, systems development, and team support. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Matthew earned his degree in History and Political Science and a Master’s in Public Administration. He met his spouse during their time at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, and after graduate school, their adventures took them to Helena, Montana; Fargo, North Dakota; and eventually Portland, Oregon, where they lived for twelve years before settling in Richmond, Virginia in 2023.

At the clinic, Matthew is passionate about creating thoughtful, efficient systems that help the whole team deliver great care and service. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking and camping—most often in Shenandoah National Park and beyond—and is a self-professed foodie who loves exploring Richmond’s vibrant food scene, as well as experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes to share with friends and family.
